Storm Picker: Will There be Hurricane Activity Before June 1st?
Atlantic Hurricane Season 2012 kicks off on June 1st and runs all the way until November 30th. Rarely is there any activity before the season, but due to this year’s unseasonably strange weather, we think anything is possible.
According to the
Atlantic Oceanographic Meteorological Laboratory (or AOML for those of us insiders—kidding), the assigned hurricane season encompasses 97% of all hurricane activity statistically speaking.
Will hurricane activity happen before the kick-off date of June 1st? For the purposes of this bet, hurricane activity includes Atlantic hurricanes, tropical storms and cyclones that make landfall.
